In honor of PCOS Awareness month
PCOS to me, is proof that "relaxing", "not trying", "try this vitamin", "try this position", "trying harder", etc does not work for me because I have a disease. My symptoms and infertility are not just all in my head, and it is not something I am doing wrong. More than anything else though, having a name for my infertility helps me not to feel ashamed. After three years of absolutely nothing happening, it is comforting to have a diagnosis. This disease directly effects my ability to get pregnant, but it also effects every aspect of my life. It makes me hormonal and moody, it effects my health because of the insulin resistance, it destroys my self-esteem-what woman wants to be told that she may never be able to give her husband a child, and it effects my relationships with other people(fighting with my husband, distancing myself from "mommy friends", anger towards those who don't have to try). Though this disease effects me deeply, it also gives me HOPE that because this is something "medically wrong", that medicine will be able to fix it. Even if it can't, I serve a just and merciful God who knows the desires of my heart and will provide. This disease has robbed me of so much, but I will not let it define me. I will fight! I will win! I will be a mother one day! I will bring awareness to this awful disease, and shed light on all of those girls who suffer with PCOS in silence.
The most important thing in the world to me is to bring awareness to those silently struggling with infertility, whether they have PCOS or something else. Infertility is an unspoken disease effecting millions of women, we have to do something to help!!!
